POSITION DESCRIPTION

NAIITS: An Indigenous Learning Community is dedicated to equipping leaders for ministry in Indigenous communities across Turtle Island (North America). The Mentored Ministry Coordinator will play a vital role in this mission by coordinating experiential learning opportunities that integrates asset-based theological education, practical ministry skills, and cultural awareness. This position requires a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, a commitment to the Christian faith, support for contextual ministry, experience in leading worshiping communities, and a passion for mentoring students in their vocational journeys.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Program Development and Coordination
    a. Design and oversee the Mentored Ministry program in coordination with the Director of Graduate Studies, ensuring it aligns with NAIITS unique Indigenous Appreciative Inquiry approach.

    b. Design and oversee year long and intensive experiential learning opportunities that introduce students to a variety of urban and rural Indigenous ministries, community organizations, and leaders in a given region in coordination with the Director of Graduate Studies.

    c. Develop reciprocal relationships with Indigenous churches, ministries, and community organizations to provide meaningful placement opportunities.

    d. Ensure all placements meet academic and spiritual formation objectives.

    e. Complete an annual assessment of the program in coordination with Director of Graduate Studies.

  • Student Support and Supervision
    a. Mentor and guide students as they discern their calling and engage in ministry placements.

    b. Provide orientation, training, and ongoing support to students and ministry mentors in the program.

    c. Conduct site visits and evaluations to monitor student progress and provide feedback.

    d. Utilizing an asset-based approach, make recommendations on a student’s competency and suitability for ministry.

  • Community Engagement
    a. Foster relationships with Indigenous leaders, pastors, and organizations to build trust and collaboration.

  • Faculty and Staff Collaboration
    a. Work closely with academic faculty to integrate Mentored Ministry into the broader trauma-informed, asset-based M.Div. curriculum.

    b. Collaborate with NAIITS staff and supervisors to ensure that students have the resources and support they need.

    c. Participate in faculty meetings and institutional planning.

  • Program Administration
    a. Maintain records of student placements, evaluations, and program outcomes.

    b. Communicate Mentored Ministry budget needs to the Director of Graduate Studies.

    c. Ensure compliance with institutional policies and accreditation requirements in coordination with the Director of Graduate Studies and the Student Support Officer.

  • Spiritual Leadership
    a. Be a resource for understanding and navigating the intersection of Indigenous and Christian identities.

    b. Facilitate spiritual formation experiences that reflect the Christian faith and Indigenous traditions.

    c. Engage in other activities to support the well-being of the NAIITS program and community as agreed upon with the NAIITS Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least a MDiv degree or an equivalent (Doctorate preferred)
  • Proven experience in mentoring, leadership, and program administration
  • Experience in ministry within Indigenous contexts
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions in North America
  • A deep commitment to the Christian faith and the empowerment of Indigenous communities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed for site visits, community engagement, and NAIITS gatherings
Reporting
  • The incumbent reports to the Director of Graduate Studies of NAIITS.
