Wiconi: Wiconi and Sioux Falls Seminary 2017 Immersion

Once again Wiconi is joining together with Sioux Falls Seminary to host the 2017 Immersion Experience on the Rosebud Lakota Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. This year’s program will be July 8 – 14, 2017.

The Immersion Experience is a weeklong step into the world of the Rosebud Reservation and is offered for college credit for students and non-credit for those interested in learning more about Indigenous life. This is a cross-cultural experience where the students are able to gain a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the original people of this land.

Local elders teach sessions, and community members share an insider’s perspective of life on the reservation with the class – complete with question and answer times. As the class is offered for college credit, time is given for reflection and review of each day’s experiences.

There is a wide range of activities including:

• Attending a Powwow where students are both observers and participants.
• Various sites on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud reservations including the Wounded Knee Massacre site.
• Attending traditional ceremonial grounds.

Wiconi: Many Nations One Voice Reunion

Wiconi, the newest member of our ministry family, is hosting a Many Nations One Voice Reunion (MN1V) in Lansing, Michigan, September 29-30, 2017.

"Where we have come from and where we are going".

The MN1V conferences began in the mid 1990's and spread to many cities throughout the United States and Canada with the message of what has been called the Contextual Ministry Movement. Initiated by the late Dr. Richard Twiss and his wife Katherine, with the assistance of Dr. Terry Leblanc, Native believers were encouraged to worship Jesus Christ from within their cultural context - something that had been avoided or misunderstood up to that point.

The movement caught fire and, now, many who were initially skeptical have come to a better understanding of the role of culture - any culture - in expressing faith in Jesus.

Further information will be coming soon. We look forward to having you join us for this unique event in 2017.
